Getting the best SEO
Updated: Nov 13, 2018
Firstly, let's address what SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is all about. In a nutshell, it's a series of actions you can take so that your website appears as high as possible in the results of search engines like Google. Good SEO helps search engines find your website faster. It can seem complicated as there are so many different factors to look at when designing your website - not just making it look good!
WARNING: You may come across some website jargon! But don't worry, I can explain these tips when we meet to discuss your website needs.
Top tips on how to improve your SEO:
Page speed is critical - A slow page can frustrate a user and lead to people leaving your site. We've all experienced it haven't we. A page takes ages to load and we have that little circle icon driving us crazy, so what do we do? Yep, you've got it, we leave the site.

Google includes site speed as on of the all-important factors, so get rid of 'clutter' on your website and widgets you don't need on your site, all off which can slow your site down.
Page Meta Tags - Behind every website is invisible information helping your site get found. They're called Page Meta Tags. Every page you have will have a title, a description and keywords. This is what people see when they do a Google search, so they are vitally important. They may be the first thing people read about your business! Make sure your meta tags are filled in for every page of your website.
Content is king. When you write content for your site, be sure to add key words that describe your business. BUT make sure your content makes sense and you write for humans first, search engines second. Check out www.copyblogger.com for some great content tips. I take some time with every client to look at key words for your business, and make sure these are fully optimised on your website.
Text Hyperlinks - A great way to improve SEO is by using hyperlinks. Linking to other pages in your site, linking to other sites and getting other sites to link to yours is easy to do, so give it a go! It may seem as though you are directing people away from your site, but link building, especially in blogs, remains a fundamental smart SEO strategy.
Use meaningful and readable URL's
Take a look at these URL's below:
See the difference? If users don't understand your URL, chances are that search engines won't either. I ensure all your URL's make sense!
Alt Text - This is basically text you add to all your images so that they show up on Google searches. Alt Text should be short and descriptive.
Google values great user experience when determining search results, and having a website which is mobile optimised ranks better when searching from your phone.

An instant fix - The results of #SEO work done today are not instant. It can take weeks and even months for SEO work to be credited on search engines. I told you this SEO stuff could be confusing!
Never consider your website finished - If you want to rank higher, want to attract more customers, then you should always be updating content to your website to keep it fresh and up to date.
Create videos - You want people to spend more time on your website, and getting them to watch a video is a good way of doing this. Especially if you're target market is 16-24 year olds as they love video content!
